Dental implant market to explode

According to a 2009 report given by the MRG (Millennium Research Group) on US Markets for Dental Implants, the American market for dental implants, which has been experiencing lower procedural growth as the general economy suffers, is expected to recover by the year 2010. The market is then expected to explode, becoming worth more than one billion dollars within the following three years.

In the current recession, dental patients have been less likely to choose dental implant procedures. Many patients have chosen to get less expensive procedures, such as bridges and crowns. Because of patients’ reluctance to choose dental implants, appointments have declined and many clinicians have begun purchasing fewer products for dental implants.

The general economy is expected to begin recovering in 2010, and as it recovers, so will the market for dental implants. Experts expect that patients will begin to show a preference for procedures that promise to be minimally invasive with shorter lengths of treatment while still offering improvements in aesthetics. Additional advancements in the field, such as technologically-advanced guided surgery options, custom milled abutments, and two piece dental implants with small diameters, are also expected to fuel the growth of this market.

Poonam Jassi, a Senior Analyst for Millennium Research Group, believes that as more general practitioners become comfortable with placing dental implants, the market will begin to grow steadily. Jassi also believes that small diameter implants will fuel further growth because they are less invasive and easier for dentists to place. Jassi states that there is a much higher potential for profit in dental implants versus the various alternative treatment options, and this will drive the market to explode into the predicted worth of one billion dollars by 2013.
