Travelling abroad and holidays

Holiday season is fast approaching and we’re all saving up so that we can jet off to more exotic shores. Going on holiday is something people plan and look forward to for months and even years so it’s important to make sure you make the most of your time away.

Travel health and safety is an important subject because it can make the difference between a brilliant, unforgettable holiday and a nightmare trip. Before you go away, it’s important to think about what you need to take with you and whether you need any injections or medication to protect you against illnesses and diseases, which may be common where you are going.

If you are going to Europe, you probably won’t need any immunisations but you should take a medical kit with you, as this will be useful, especially if you have children. The kit doesn’t need to be fancy but should contain plasters, bandages, painkillers, anti-mosquito spray and creams for bites or skin irritation; if you or any of your travelling companions are on prescription medication, it is a good idea to check you have plenty of medication left before you go. If you are heading somewhere more exotic like Asia or Africa, you may need to have injections and some need to be given a long time in advance so check this out well in advance and book yourself an appointment to get the immunisations done in plenty of time.

If you become ill while you are away, you may need to visit a medical centre, dentist or hospital; if you require care in Europe this should be subsidised if you have a valid EHIC card; your travel insurance should also cover medical costs wherever you go but you need to check the details of your policy carefully before you make a claim. It is important to note that facilities and standards of cleanliness and care may not be the same as at home; if you require emergency dental treatment, for example you need cosmeticdentistryguide.co.uk/articles/root-canal.html treatment, you will find that some clinics are not up to the same standards as dentists in Dublin, for example.

If you are interested in pursuing a medical or dental career abroad, research the area carefully and look for vacancies or vacant buildings, for example dental guide to practices, if you want to run your own business rather than being employed by somebody else.
